Well, to start, SERI isn’t your typical non-profit organization. Actually, we’re far more like a 15-year-old startup in growth-mode in terms of our passion and ambition. Maybe a good analogy for our culture is thinking about SERI as a high-performance sailing team…

With sailing, you have a goal – a destination that you are trying to get to as quickly and efficiently as possible. For us, that’s making electronics sustainable. Like on a boat, everyone has a job to do and success relies on how well we come together. We equally support one another and hold each other accountable.

And like in sailing, sometimes the water is smooth and everything goes as planned. But sometimes it isn’t, so being agile, creative, and open-minded are valued traits for the team.

Essential to our team is an eagerness to learn and grow in our knowledge and skills. Even if you are the most knowledgeable and experienced hire, our organization, and the landscape that we operate in, is constantly changing and evolving. That requires a willingness to listen and learn from other viewpoints. It’s vital to our success and core to our culture.

At the end of the day, though we come from different backgrounds and experiences (and even different parts of the world), our passion for the mission is one thing that binds us. And having that in common makes working at SERI pretty unique.
