Lithium Batteries… the next big industry concern?

While CRT Glass has dominated as one of the most challenging environmental pollution and health and safety concerns of the past decade, lithium batteries are fast becoming the next big concern.  Lithium batteries pose numerous risks throughout the reuse and recycling process.  Compounding these risks is the increasing prevalence of lithium batteries in desktops, mobile devices, and laptop computers.  Lithium batteries are also increasingly used in smaller devices such as wearables, disposable toys, key FOBs, flashlights, etc.  Recyclers and others in the chain of custody must understand the

Transition period for R2 Auditor Training has ended

In 2016, SERI introduced an enhanced R2 Auditor training program to strengthen and improve the quality of the audit process.  Existing auditors were given until August 31, 2017 to complete the 3-day training and pass the final exam.  Now that the transition deadline has passed, all R2 auditors are required to successfully complete SERI’s training program and pass the final exam before they are eligible to conduct R2 certification audits.

RoHS Equipment and R2

RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is a European Union (EU) Directive that restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).  It affects all applicable product sold in EU countries after July 1, 2006.  RoHS compliance may be identified with a green RoHS label with a checkmark.  The RoHS 2 Directive 2011/65/EU was published July 2011.  It expands coverage of RoHS and requires manufactures to comply before products can have the CE mark.

Reaching new milestones: 700 R2 certified facilities in 30 countries

Numbers aren’t particularly significant, but the milestones and change they represent can be.  A few noteworthy R2 milestones:
