In 2016, SERI introduced an enhanced R2 Auditor training program to strengthen and improve the quality of the audit process. Existing auditors were given until August 31, 2017 to complete the 3-day training and pass the final exam. Now that the transition deadline has passed, all R2 auditors are required to successfully complete SERI’s training program and pass the final exam before they are eligible to conduct R2 certification audits.
Some interesting training statistics:
- Of the 82 auditors who participated in the training, 70 were based in North America, 11 in Asia, and 1 in Brazil.
- 8 of the training sessions were held in the U.S. and 1 was held in India.
- Auditors who did not pass the exam are permitted one opportunity to retake the class and pass the exam.
- An additional 50 consultants, technical reviewers and recyclers also have participated in the training.
The R2 auditor training is conducted by Sarah Smart, who is a trainer, consultant and former auditor with extensive industry expertise. Sarah was also instrumental in developing the course in conjunction with SERI Quality Director, Sharada Rao. The course has been extremely well received. Just a few of the comments…
“The trainer (Sarah Smart) did an outstanding job of relating complex information in an engaging and practical way. It definitely deepened my understanding of not only the R2 requirements, but the type of evidence required, and how to interpret that evidence.”
“Sarah was an excellent communicator and teacher. I had a good grasp of the R2 program before, but this class took my knowledge to a whole new level. Three days well spent!”
“Many practical, hands-on examples. Very informative.”
The course will continue to be offered several times a year as demand requires.
