SERI is proud of the many R2 certified companies who are making a difference through safe and sustainable management of used electronics, and through their work to improve the lives of people in their communities and around the world. In the spotlight this month:
Tech Dump is a nonprofit organization with two electronics recycling facilities in Minnesota. The mission of the organization’s co-founders is two-fold: to reduce the environmental footprint of electronics through reuse and responsible recycling; and to start a jobs program that provides training and employment for Minnesotans who face barriers to work, including time in the justice system and prior addiction.
They are succeeding in both the environmental and social responsibility arenas. Since its establishment in 2011, Tech Dump has responsibly repaired or recycled more than 20 million pounds of used electronics, enabling the organization to employ 54 people. An additional 28 have “graduated” to other careers. To date, the organization’s repair and recycling activities have been able to provide more than 328,000 hours of job training and employment to people who face barriers to work. We say, well done!
