Departure of John Lingelbach as Executive Director
Last week the SERI Board issued a press release announcing John Lingelbach’s decision to move on from his current position as Executive Director of SERI to pursue other interests. John has shepherded the Responsible Recycling (R2) Standard and the SERI organization from a mere idea to a vital guidepost for the international electronics reuse and recycling community. John’s thoughtful and principled leadership has helped secure worldwide respect and growth for the R2 standard, which now has now reached 750 certified facilities operating in 30 countries. It is the desire of the Board and of John that he remain part of the SERI community in some to be determined role.
John has agreed to stay on as SERI’s Executive Director for the next several months while the Board carries out a search for a successor. Further information on the hiring process will be posted on the SERI website under ABOUT > JOB POSTINGS as it becomes available.
Return of Dr. Kummer Peiry, former Executive Secretary of the Basel Convention
The Board also issued a press release last week announcing the return of Dr. Katharina Kummer Peiry to SERI’s Board of Directors. During her five-year tenure as head of the Secretariat of the Basel Convention. She championed the concept of waste as a valuable resource. Her efforts in this area contributed to the inclusion of this concept in the Basel Convention’s 10-year Strategic Framework, and in the Cartagena Declaration on the Prevention, Minimization and Recovery of Hazardous Wastes.
SERI’s executive director, John Lingelbach, noted the respect that Kummer Peiry has earned world-wide. “Katharina’s stature and expertise in international policy, particularly as is it relates to environmental sustainability and the Circular Economy, will be a tremendous asset to SERI as it works to improve the way used and end-of-life electronics are managed around the world. The contributions she made to the Basel Convention are significant, and we look forward to the leadership, knowledge and experience she will bring to SERI.”
