Over the past year, SERI has been reviewing a sampling of audit reports from each auditor and certification body (CB) to verify the effectiveness of auditors and CBs in the certification process. The expectation is that auditors will be thorough, accurate, and consistent in their documentation and evaluation of evidence, and that CBs will effectively monitor auditor performance and control quality by ensuring objective evidence backs the certificates they issue.
The intent of this advisory is to ensure quality in the audit and certification process, and to uphold the credibility of R2 Certification. This new advisory outlines the actions that will be taken by SERI when those expectations are not met. In such cases, SERI will classify complaints as level 1 to 3 depending on the severity of the concerns and file the complaint directly with the CB and/or with the Accreditation Body (AB) that oversees the CB. The CB will investigate the complaint and develop a corrective action plan. If complaints are not adequately resolved within the established timeframes, the CB, and in some cases the R2 certified company(s) in the audit reports, may face suspension.
