Verifying the entire downstream chain

< BACK

Q:   Do all the downstream vendors through the entire downstream recycling chain have to be known and qualified under Appendix A?

In some cases, no. The R2 Facility is no longer required to know the entire downstream recycling chain, as long as the equipment, components, and materials are going to an R2v3 Certified DSV that was verified by the R2 Facility in accordance with Appendix A (7), and where the R2 Facility registers its portion of the downstream chain with SERI as per Appendix A (4)(b).

If, however, the R2 Facility wants to know the entire downstream recycling chain until final disposition, R2 Certified DSVs are required under Appendix A (5) to provide the names and locations of all DSVs.

This flexibility in qualifying and tracking the downstream chain allows each R2 Facility to determine where to stop downstream tracking as best suits their needs and reduces unnecessary administration where the R2 Facility deems that further tracking after an R2v3 Certified DSV is not needed.
