R2:2013 - The Responsible Recycling Standard
The R2:2013 Standard is the leading global certification standard for the electronics reuse and recycling industry. The requirements in the R2 Standard are designed to protect people, protect the environment, protect data, and preserve resources. This is achieved through rigorous annual 3rd-party audits of R2 certified facilities, and through transparency and accountability throughout the entire reuse/recycling chain of used electronic products.
R2:2013 was developed through an open and transparent multi-stakeholder process. To learn more about the R2 development process, click here.

Help Improve R2
R2 has been successful because of active input from participants like you. Please help us improve our process, and the R2 standard itself, by contributing to the ongoing authorship of this document.
Formal Interpretations are consensus agreements by the R2 Consensus Body, with input from the R2 Technical Advisory Committee that are officially approved by the SERI Board Directors in accordance with SERI’s Manual of Policies and Procedures for R2 Standard Development. Formal Interpretations carry the full authority of the R2 Standard, are auditable and citable for nonconformances. Any other statements, written or oral, shall not be considered nor relied upon as a Formal Interpretation of the R2 Standard.
Formal Interpretations become part of the R2 Standard and, upon their Effective Date, shall be treated as such by all involved in the R2 Certification Program (e.g. recyclers, Certification Bodies, auditors).
