Washington DC, USA – October 19, 2021

The SERI Board is pleased to announce the appointment of 10 new members to the R2 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).  These new members join the R2 TAC in response to SERI’s call for new members in July 2021 and represent the photovoltaic (PV) stakeholders that will help write requirements for the safe, secure, and sustainable reuse and recycling of PV modules into the current R2v3 Standard.

Joining the TAC are the following individuals and their respective organization:

Entities Covered by the Standard:

  • Dwight Clark, We Recycle Solar
  • Sam Vanderhoof, Recycle PV Solar
  • Tommy McGuire, Echo Environmental

Customers of Entities Covered by the Standard:

  • Edwin Mopas, SunPower Corp.
  • Jan Clyncke, PV Cycle
  • Parikhit Sinha, First Solar

Regulatory/Public Interest/Other Stakeholders:

  • Beverly Kennedy, GEC
  • Evelyn Butler, Solar Energy Industries Association
  • Garvin Heath, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
  • Ron Vance, US EPA

The process for integrating PV panels into R2v3 will be thoughtful and measured and will follow SERI’s approved procedures for R2 development, in alignment with the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Essential Requirements for standards development.  Next steps for the TAC are to consider best practices for managing used PV panels and how they fit into the R2v3 Standard.  Following ANSI requirements, there will be public review and comment periods on the draft PV requirements, as well as any redrafts in response to the comments received.  In total, the drafting and review processes are expected to take approximately 2 years to complete after which, an implementation timeline for the new requirements will be established.

In addition to welcoming the new TAC members, SERI also wishes to sincerely thank all those who submitted applications to be considered for the TAC.  The strength of R2 continues to be the inclusion of the wide range of experience and perspectives that our multistakeholder TAC brings to the development process.
