Washington DC, USA – July 15, 2021    An international standard for the sustainable reuse and recycling of photovoltaic (PV) modules (solar panels) just got one step closer to reality.  With the submission of its most recent Project Initiation Notification and publication in ANSI’s Standards Action, SERI has officially kicked-off the process to begin drafting requirements for the safe, secure and sustainable reuse and recycling of PV modules.  The process to draft the PV requirements will include the same rigorous ANSI approved standard development and public consultation processes that are used for drafting the R2 Standard.  Meaning that once complete, the PV criteria can be added to the R2 Standard, providing processors of PV equipment criteria for certifying and recognizing their operations to the widely-adopted and well-recognized R2 Standard.

In addition to the notice of the PV drafting process, Standards Action also includes a Call for Members, for any stakeholders in the PV industry that are interested in participating in the standard drafting process.  Anybody interested in participating on the R2 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is requested to complete the online TAC Application Form.  Selection of new TAC members and the starting of the drafting process are likely to begin in the early fall timeframe.
